The range was 10 miles and course and speed indicated that it was headed for the Truxtun. Moments later, the operator of the AN/SPS 48 radar also confirmed the contact but he said that the contact was airborne. Some confusion was generated by these conflicting reports. The speed reported by the 10 radar operator was 20 knots, consistent with a torpedo boat, which the North Vietnamese were known to have.

UFO experts have described Shropshire as a hive of activity and believe something “big” is going on in the county. Following dozens of reports of unidentified lights in the sky over the past three months Philip Hoyle, of the UFO Investigation and Research Unit, has revealed that an investigation is under way. It is focusing on the Hope and Rea Valleys in the south of the county. Farmers in the area reported finding a number of mutilated animals after seeing strange lights.

A ballot measure on whether Denver should create an “Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission” could wind up costing city taxpayers $500,000, city officials said Thursday. That’s because as of Thursday there were no other initiatives or city offices to be decided on the April 2009 ballot. “As we sit here on Sept. 4, you’re the only game in town,” Assistant City Attorney David Broadwell informed Jeff Peckman, chief proponent of the measure during a ballot review and comment hearing Thursday. That could change as other citizen initiatives come forward, he added.

Ghost hunters are wanted to spend the night in one the most haunted places in the North to raise money for charity. Cancer treatment charity The Anthony Nolan Trust is looking for people to sleep over at the Winter Gardens theatre in Morecambe. The Winter Gardens, which was featured on TV’s Most Haunted with Derek Ancora, is supposedly haunted by a theatre manager, a grumpy male who often tells people to move along in the balcony and a Victorian woman in one of the boxes. Participants will be asked to raise sponsorship of at least £125 for the charity, which is also urging more young men to join its bone marrow register.

f you’re looking for after dark spirit walks through old downtown Belleville, Jonathon Boyd can take you on a paranormal adventure. Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. Boyd takes a few people for a walk through historic Belleville. On his 17-stop route, he conducts his guide wearing purple and black dress clothes with a matching black cloak and top hat. Not only does Boyd dress the part, he lives it too. Boyd has been a paranormal investigator and Wiccan for 15 years, and he is also a third-generation wizard. On paranormal investigations, Boyd brings a medium, and a person who is a medium and can do channelling. The other two people go through the allegedly haunted area to try to pick apart what they notice about the place and then compare after with what Boyd found to see if they were right.

The city of Denver is set to hold a hearing Thursday on a ballot initiative that would create an extraterrestrial commission to study the implication UFOs and aliens have on the citizens of the Mile High City. Jeff Peckman is the man behind the proposal. He released new pictures Wednesday that he says show a UFO just east of Denver. Earlier this year, he held a news conference to release images of what he said is an alien peeking through a window at a home in Nebraska. Peckman said Wednesday that he has re-written the ballot initiative to broaden the make-up of the ET Commission.

That’s what the folks at Slater Mill are betting on with their new Paranormal Pawtucket Ghost Tours. Billed as “A Walk into the Night,” the ghost tours will be held Fridays beginning at 7 p.m. from Sept. 19 through Oct. 31. Admission is $15. The tours will begin on the Slater Mill site at 67 Roosevelt Ave. Carl and Keith Johnson, twin brothers and history buffs who work as interpreters at the Slater Mill site, will be leading the ghost tours as well. In addition to being experts on Slater Mill and the Blackstone Valley area, both are also serious students of the paranormal. Carl and Keith were both featured on the Sci-Fi channel’s popular “Ghost Hunters” TV show during its first two seasons.
